First Annual Treasure Island Music Festival ||| Sept 15 & 16

This was a pretty cool event. Lots of great music both days and they scheduled it so that the music alternated between the 2 stages so there was always someone on and no overlap. I had a booth both days all day.

Here's a nice couple mesmerized by 1950s 3-d technology revisited as the screen printed gigposter poster. (newsreel voice)

This festival was a lot of fun.. I wonder if I was a carny in a past life.

event info and more snapshots...

Early in the day, this is the poster artist section of the vendor booths.. Jasom Munn, Me- John Howard, Gregg Gordon. and Lil Tuffy.

the offical info ---

The two-day Treasure Island Music Festival features an impressive line up of internationally renowned artists. Saturday, September 15th focuses on electronic and dance oriented acts with an eclectic bill including Thievery Corporation, DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, Gotan Project, M.I.A., Ghostland Observatory, Kinky and Zion I. Sunday September 16th features the best and brightest in indie rock with Modest Mouse, Spoon, Built To Spill, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and M. Ward.

There will also be plenty of interactive activities, a vending village featuring local artists and designers, as well as a diverse array of food and beverages. In the same manner that the Bay Area has long been a leader in environmental initiatives, the festival will not only implement green standards but hopes to entertain and educate concert goers with a few simple ways they can bring conservation efforts to their day-to-day lives.

Summer of Love 40th Anniversary Poster

This event was MASSIVE.. I'm still recovering from it. There was a constant flow of people at our booth from the time we finished set up until dusk. John Seabury and I shared the booth/tent and there were so many people that it was never slow enough for either of us to get away long enough to stand in the lines to get food! We were rescued with bagels and fruit by the folks at trps.

all gone
(more pics and story click below..)

In the late afternoon I heard the official 2b1 booth was selling out of this poster and I sold a lot of them too, so I'm pretty happy people seemed to dig it. I was very influenced by the old posters as I was coming up so it's cool to get an opportunity to give tribute to the genre.

Below is a cobbled together panorama of the view from our booth. The stage was way off to the left, food and more vendors to the right.

I was selling/wrapping a poster at one point and realized.. "Dude, THAT IS YOU!" An American Indian from Los Vegas was buying a poster and he looked a whole lot like the Indian I drew for the poster. He was the coolest. He said he had spent most of the day in a huge teepee at the end of the field. He said they were just hanging out and people were passing through all day long.

The reference for this drawing was of Yellow Bull of the Nez Perces of the Pacific Northwest from around the turn of the century. I wonder if they could have been related?

Dina made a ton of one inch buttons especially for Summer of Love 40th, and hundreds of them have new happy homes. I thought they looked f'n great in a line down this girls killer jacket and.. all. And she was very cool about letting me take a pic to post.

Also pictured below is a shot of Seabury in our booth as we are just about finished setting up.

many thanks TRPS and 2B1. Good Times.
